Jannette Parent is a contemporary artist who paints images inspired by the Cherokee language, culture and mythology. Her acrylic paintings feature a Cherokee word or phrase boldly painted across the canvas and illustrated by an image. She has completed over 90 paintings in this series.

During the course of her life, she has additionally become skilled in many
other art forms such as watercolors, soldering, scratchboard, sewing, quilting, crocheting, weaving, linoleum carving and embroidery. Meanwhile, she continually returns to painting her Cherokee Language series. Jannette began studying the Cherokee language in an effort to learn more about her ancestry. It quickly infused

Her dedicated studies have allowed her to reclaim and celebrate her family history and identity. More than thirty years of genealogy research led to her obtaining Tribal recognition with the Four Winds Tribe Louisiana Cherokee Confederation.
Jannette is a member of the State Recognized Tribal Arts Guild (SRTAG), two Kentucky Arts Council juried programs: Kentucky Crafted and the Teaching Artist
Jannette was born in California and raised in Oregon. She’s lived in Hawaii, Wisconsin and Florida and now resides in Princeton, Kentucky since 2004.
